New Poetry – Viewed From Atop

New Poetry

Viewed From Atop

We stood still atop the Monolith
A Monolith steeped in myth
It appears to go for eternity
The view showed that perfectly
Across the plain the eye could see
Nothing but spinifex and gumtree

But hold, what is this?
A youth with a spear stalking
His steps, the spinifex dodging
A Wallaby he was watching
We were spellbound by his skill
To watch the hunt, quite a thrill
Closer and closer did he get
The Wallaby unaware of the threat

Closer now, his muscles coiled
Ready and sure he stood poised
With silent movements the spear took flight
Thrown with all his might
Straight and true the spear it struck
Against the aboriginals lance
The Wallaby had no chance

The bush suddenly alive
More and more did arrive
There was stomping of feet
And music with beat
With patterns painted upon the chest
Seated on the ground with legs crossed
Stories were told, the spirits were thanked

The young mans skills had proven to be ample
He had provided a feast for all to sample
By the time we got down night had fallen
They had moved on, everyone gone
But plenty we had to reflect upon
As we slept awaiting the new dawn

New Poetry – Mists Of Time

new poetry

Mists Of Time

Walking through the mists of time
I could hear the death knell chime
It’s as if I was lost in space
Caught up in life’s race

Every way that I turned
The harbinger returned
The faster life’s race became
Was I ahead of the game?

Chasing that elusive goal
Of utopia for my soul
Feet caught in the mud
I heard the howl for blood

Able once again to move
Back into life’s deep groove
To the treadmill, I return
I had made a full u-turn

I passed up on any escape
Deciding I was in good shape
I would make my life my own
Life can have an altered tone

The mists had been cleared
My Harbinger had disappeared
Despair was no longer found
My heart lifted ’twas profound

My head foggy no more
Life was not a chore
I now held life dear
For now, I live in good cheer

New Poetry – Fledgelings

fledgelings

Fledgelings

The sound was sweet
Upon my senses, it did sweep
The day began to heat
It was now time to sleep

Afternoon’s siesta done
Evening had begun
The birds again did sing
More and more in spring

Upon the wing, they hunt
Acrobatics like a stunt
Those that are fast
They are unsurpassed

The chicks all wait
Their bills agape
As fledgelings, they try
If only they could fly

Soon they will try
Madly flapping they flit
To flight, they commit
Through the air with grit

As they leave the nest
With puffed out chest
Parents now rest
They too leave the nest
